Concordia Observation Playground

Carefully designed to supports Concordia University’s academic program in early childhood education and the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale, the Observation Playground stimulates physical, social, emotional and cognitive development in a healthy and safe environment.

Favoring a strong landscape approach, the project introduced a verdant oasis of beneficial plants within a large urban parking lot. The space, limited in scale, is carefully organized to provide physical, social and creative play, while encouraging children to interact with plants, soil, sand and rocks.

The natural materials used to build the landscape are durable, beautiful and well adapted to the surrounding vernacular gray stone architecture.
